The production of growth hormone by subpopulations of rat mononuclear leukocytes

In this study we analyzed the production of GH mRNA and secretion of GH by purified subpopulations of rat lymphoid cells. The data demonstrate that mononuclear leukocytes from various tissues, including spleen, thymus, bone marrow, Peyer's patches, and peripheral blood, all have the ability to produce GH mRNA and secrete GH.

Plasma cortisol and aldosterone levels and number of related receptors in mononuclear leukocytes were measured in 49 healthy aged subjects (62-97 yr) and in 21 adult controls (21-50 yr). In all subjects, in addition, lymphocyte subsets were determined as an index of corticosteroid action.

Effect of dialysable leukocyte extract on the mononuclear leukocytes in Hodgkin's disease.

Therapy with dialysable leukocyte extract repeated 6 times, had a beneficial effect on the impaired functions of mononuclear leukocytes in Hodgkin's disease. The decreased phagocytosis and chemotaxis of monocytes increased almost to the values of healthy controls.
