Global Analysis of Height‐Resolved Ice Particle Categories From Spaceborne Lidar

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
A more accurate representation of ice‐phase processes in numerical models necessitates an enhanced understanding of ice‐particle microphysics and their respective formation conditions.

DF-UHRNet: A Modified CNN-Based Deep Learning Method for Automatic Sea Ice Classification from Sentinel-1A/B SAR Images

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
With the goal of automatic sea ice mapping during the summer sea ice melt cycle, this study involved designing a fully automatic sea ice segmentation method based on a deep learning semantic segmentation network applicable to summer SAR images, which ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project (ISMIP6) contribution to CMIP6 [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2016
Reducing the uncertainty in the past, present, and future contribution of ice sheets to sea-level change requires a coordinated effort between the climate and glaciology communities.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Investigating snow sinks on level sea ice: A case study in the western Arctic

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
SnowModel-LG reconstructs snow depth and density over sea ice, explicitly resolving important snow sinks like blowing snow sublimation, static surface sublimation and melt, but not snow-ice formation.

A 180-Million-Year Record of Sea Level and Ice Volume Variations from Continental Margin and Deep-Sea Isotopic Records [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2011
The geologic record provides constraints on the rates, amplitudes, and mechanisms controlling globally averaged (eustatic) and relative (eustatic plus subsidence/uplift) changes of sea level on various time scales.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Formulation, calibration and validation of the DAIS model (version 1), a simple Antarctic ice sheet model sensitive to variations of sea level and ocean subsurface temperature [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2014
The DCESS (Danish Center for Earth System Science) Antarctic Ice Sheet (DAIS) model is presented. Model hindcasts of Antarctic ice sheet (AIS) sea level equivalent are forced by reconstructed Antarctic temperatures, global mean sea level and high ...
