RF experiments in LHD

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1999
Large Helical Device (LHD) has been started its operation from the end of March 1998. Second harmonic electron cyclotron heating (ECH) is used as a plasma production and heating. Three gyrotrons have been used at the frequency range of 84 GHz as power sources.

Operations of LHD

Proceedings of 16th International Symposium on Fusion Engineering, 2002
The Large Helical Device (LHD) is a big non-tokamak type superconducting toroidal fusion apparatus, which is an on-going project under construction being completed in 1997. Based on the results of the developments in both areas of the physics and technology researches concerned, the LHD project is expected to contribute to the necessary understandings ...

Autonomous LHD loading

Proceedings Fourth Annual Conference on Mechatronics and Machine Vision in Practice, 2002
Machine vision is used for guidance of the autonomous loading of ore during underground mining. Three dimensional spatial data of the ore pile is derived in real-time from camera images and is used for planning the scooping process. A sensory integration technique combines feedforward from the same vision system with wheel odometry to guide the vehicle

Overview of LHD experiments

Nuclear Fusion, 2001
During the first two years of the LHD experiment the following results have been achieved: (i) higher Te (Te(0) = 4.4 keV at ne = 5.3 × 1018 m-3 and Pabs = 1.8 MW); (ii) higher confinement (τE = 0.3 s, Te(0) = 1.1 keV at ne = 6.5 × 1019 m-3 and Pabs = 2.0 MW); (iii) higher stored energy, Wpdia = 880 kJ at B = 2.75 T.
