A precision medicine approach to sex-based differences in ideal cardiovascular health

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Cardiovascular disease risk factor profiles and health behaviors are known to differ between women and men. Sex-based differences in ideal cardiovascular health were examined in the My Research Legacy study, which collected cardiovascular health and ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Work‐Related Stress Is Associated With Unfavorable Cardiovascular Health: The Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Work‐related stress is a psychosocial risk factor linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the association between work‐related stress and cardiovascular health (CVH) is not well established.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Modifiable risk factors and metabolic health in risk of cardiovascular disease among US adults: A nationwide cross-sectional study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology. Cardiovascular Risk and Prevention
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) by 2-fold. Ideal control of modifiable risk factors in Life's Simple 7 (LS7) could reduce the CVD risk among the general population.

Patterns of Speciation and Extinction and the Divine Valuing of Creation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The near-universal concern over the current rate of species extinction must be contextualized, given the occurrence ofprevious mass extinctions during the course of Earth\'s natural history.

An investigation of the relationship between rumination styles, hope, and suicide ideation through the lens of the integrated motivational-volitional model of suicidal behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To investigate the roles specific ruminative styles (brooding and reflection) and hope play in the Integrated Motivational-Volitional (IMV) model of suicidal behavior. Participants were students from a large U.S.
