MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Plasma-activated water irrigation increases mortality of immature spider mites (Tetranychus urticae) on tomato plants

open access: yesScientific Reports
Supplementary irrigation with plasma-activated water (PAW) has been shown to boost seed germination and seedling vigor, and it has the potential to induce host plant resistance against pest populations, such as, two-spotted spider mites (TSSM ...

Intergenerational Sublethal Effects of Flonicamid on Cotton Aphid, Aphis gossypii: An Age-Stage, Two-Sex Life Table Study

open access: yesInsects
Flonicamid is a novel systemic insecticide widely used against aphids. However, the intergenerational sublethal effects of flonicamid on cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii, have not been fully studied.

Entropy of the Gompertz-Makeham mortality model

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2014
Background: Life table entropy is a quantity frequently used in demography; e.g., as a measure ofheterogeneity in age at death, or as the elasticity of life expectancy with regards to proportional changes in age-specific mortality.

An extension of relational methods in mortality estimations [PDF]

open access: yes
Actuaries and demographers have a long tradition of utilising collateral data to improve mortality estimates. Three main approaches have been used to accomplish the improvement- mortality laws, model life tables, and relational methods. The present paper

Physical activity and life expectancy: a life-table analysis

open access: yes
Objective Low physical activity (PA) levels are associated with increased mortality. Improved measurement has resulted in stronger proven associations between PA and mortality, but this has not yet translated to improved estimates of the disease burden ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Life table parameters of the predatory mite Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) on different strawberry cultivars in the laboratory conditions

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2017
Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) is a predatory mite that can control spider mites. The effect of seven strawberry cultivars (including: ‘Marak’, ‘Yalova’, ‘Aliso’, ‘Gaviota’, ‘Sequoia’, ‘Camarosa’ and ‘Chandler’) on the growth and development of N ...
