Assessment of Depth Contact Endurance of Surface-Hardened Gears

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов
The main factors determining the performance of highly stressed surface-hardened gears of transmissions of energy-consuming machines are the parameters of a hardened layer, especially the behavior of hardness distribution over its thickness. The existing

DLTPulseGenerator: A library for the simulation of lifetime spectra based on detector-output pulses

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2018
The quantitative analysis of lifetime spectra relevant in both life and materials sciences presents one of the ill-posed inverse problems and, hence, leads to most stringent requirements on the hardware specifications and the analysis algorithms. Here we

Resonance Lifetimes from Complex Densities

open access: yes, 2009
The ab-initio calculation of resonance lifetimes of metastable anions challenges modern quantum-chemical methods. The exact lifetime of the lowest-energy resonance is encoded into a complex "density" that can be obtained via complex-coordinate scaling ...

Ultrafast fluorescent decay induced by metal-mediated dipole-dipole interaction in two-dimensional molecular aggregates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Two-dimensional molecular aggregate (2DMA), a thin sheet of strongly interacting dipole molecules self-assembled at close distance on an ordered lattice, is a fascinating fluorescent material.

Pulmonary Dysfunction Is Associated With Sleep Study Abnormalities in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Two Approaches to the Problem of High-cycle Fatigue of Materials and Structures

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
Creation of new types of materials and development of new methods aimed at extending the lifetime of structures are two interconnected approaches to solve the problem of metallic structures fatigue.

alpha^2 corrections to parapositronium decay: a detailed description

open access: yes, 2000
We present details of our recent calculation of alpha^2 corrections to the parapositronium decay into two photons. These corrections are rather small and our final result for the parapositronium lifetime agrees well with the most recent measurement ...

Exciton effective mass enhancement in coupled quantum wells in electric and magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present a calculation of exciton states in semiconductor coupled quantum wells (CQWs) in the presence of electric and magnetic fields applied perpendicular to the QW plane. The exciton Schr\"odinger equation is solved in real space in three dimensions

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
