Borane-Containing Ligands Based on Thioxanthene, Xanthene and Acridine: Syntheses and Platinum Coordination Chemistry

open access: yes, 2006
Ligand backbones based on xanthene, thioxanthene and acridine (XPB, TXPB and APB) have been targeted as scaffolds for the formation of rare compounds containing Lewis basic phosphine and Lewis acidic borane moieties.

Topic Review:: Levodopa/Receptor Ligands in Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yes, 2021
Levodopa (LD) is the most effective drug in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, although it represents the “gold standard” of PD therapy, LD can cause side effects, including gastrointestinal and cardiovascular symptoms as well as ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

NOCICEPTIN/ORPHANIN FQ RECEPTOR LIGANDS: PHARMACOLOGICAL STUDIES

open access: yes, 2009
The neuropeptide nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) selectively binds and activates the N/OFQ peptide (NOP) receptor. At cellular level N/OFQ inhibits cAMP accumulation and Ca2+ conductance and stimulates K+ currents.

Multivalent Siglec ligands

open access: yesCarbohydrate Research
Siglecs are proteins that play important biological roles, especially in the immune system. Intervention with Siglec recognition has potential for modulation of the immune system. Progress in the discovery of specific Siglec ligands combined with the use of multivalent platforms for these ligands has allowed effective intervention in various scenarios.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

Active learning of ligands that enhance perovskite nanocrystal luminescence

open access: yes
Ligands play a critical role in the optical properties and chemical stability of colloidal nanocrystals (NCs), but identifying ligands that can enhance NC properties is daunting given the high dimensionality of chemical space.
