Exposure to light at night and risk of depression in the elderly
Journal of Affective Disorders, 2013Recent advances in understanding the fundamental links between chronobiology and depressive disorders have enabled exploring novel risk factors for depression in the field of biological rhythms. Increased exposure to light at night (LAN) is common in modern life, and LAN exposure is associated with circadian misalignment.

35 The reach of artificial light at night (ALAN) is growing rapidly around the globe, including the increasing use of 36 energy-efficient LED lights. Many studies document the physiological costs of light at night, but far fewer have focused 37 on the ...

Plant invasions under artificial light at night
Trends in Ecology & EvolutionArtificial light at night (ALAN) is a global change driver but how it interacts with plant invasions is unclear. Determining this requires understanding direct effects of ALAN on physiology, phenology, growth, and fitness of both invasive and native plant species and its indirect effects mediated through mutualistic and/or antagonistic interactions.

Abstract This article argues that the ring composition in Parmenides’ proem (DK28B1) forms a previously overlooked argument in favour of katabasis within the blurred-topography interpretation, since the ring composition mirrors the circular journey of the daughters of the Sun, who travel from the House of Night, pick up the kouros in ...
