Light exposure patterns in schizophrenia

Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1992
Spontaneous light exposure patterns were studied in 10 chronic schizophrenic patients. Half of our schizophrenic patients exposed themselves to bright light exceeding ordinary indoor illumination. There was a significant positive correlation between the percentage of exposure to bright light and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale subscore anergia and a

Ontogenetic exposure to light influences seabird vulnerability to light pollution

Journal of Experimental Biology, 2023
ABSTRACTLight pollution critically affects fledglings of burrow-nesting seabirds, leading to massive mortality events. The successful management of this pollutant depends upon a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing visual sensitivity and corresponding behaviours towards light. Factors shaping the development of the visual system could

Natural light exposure of young adults

Physiology & Behavior, 1986
Bright light has a role in natural coordination of mammalian circadian and seasonal rhythms. In humans, the light intensity must probably exceed 2000 lux to be optimal. Natural light exposures of 10 healthy adults were measured over a 24-hour period, using forehead illumination transducers connected to a portable computer.

Light Exposure and the Retina

Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009
Exposure to light is necessary to initiate phototransduction, the first step in visual perception. However, the risk that excessive exposure to light poses to retinal cells must be considered when developing new ocular imaging modalities.

Human Disease Associated with Exposure to Light

Annual Review of Medicine, 1976
A review is given of the hazards associated with ultraviolet wave-lengths between 290 and 320 nm--the erythemogenic or UVB portion. These hazards include direct injury to proteins within enzymes and membranes (sunburn), and to nucleotides (skin cancer, plant mutations), as well as indirect damage when ultraviolet rays combine with exogenous chemicals ...

Naturalistic studies of human light exposure

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1983
For 24 h, 10 volunteers wore an apparatus that recorded their exposure to light at eye level and at the wrist. Activity was also recorded from the head, both wrists, and an ankle. Most of the subjects were exposed to daylight illumination intensities for only brief and scattered episodes during the 24 h.

UV light exposure counseling and reality

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2006
Newsanchor. "Well, the days are getting warmer and that means it's swimsuit time. But not everyone is looking forward to fun in the sun. Barbie Highlights explains." Barbie: "Thanks, Biff. Although the lure of hitting the pools, beaches, and lakes is a considerable draw for much of the public, it's not without its downsides.

Self-Regulated Exposure to Light by Dark- or Light-Treated Rats

Science, 1962
Rats allowed to expose themselves to light do so for a rather constant length of time each day. This duration of exposure depends upon both the brightness of the light used for testing and the illumination in which the rats were maintained before testing.
