A flexible light pipe was devised for coupling between a photomultiplier tube and a scintillator. The light pipe comprises a convoluted Neoprene rubber tube coated on the inside with titanium oxide pigment in a vinyl base and filled with glycerine. The glycerine is separated from the pliotomultiplier by a short Lucite section.

Light pipe for high intensity laser pulses
Physical Review Letters, 1993Optical guiding of intense laser pulses over a distance in excess of 20 Rayleigh lengths has recently been demonstrated1 using a two pulse technique. The first pulse prepares a shock-driven, axially extended radial electron density profile which guides a second pulse, injected after an optimum delay which increases with mass of the plasma ions.

Simple light pipes for the Stereoscan
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1973Electron detectors have been made both for emissive and for transmission studies in the scanning electron microscope by depositing scintillation/phosphor material as a thin film on preshaped perspex rods. Compared with typical commercially available units, the light pipes are of low cost, comparable efficiency and can have a good service life.

Using mode theory, we calculate the crosstalk between overmoded optical fibers or light pipes when one fiber is illuminated by a focused collimated beam. The presence of many modes allows the summation of crosstalk power between individual modes to be converted to an integral expression.
