Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Sensing the light: photoreceptive systems and signal transduction in cyanobacteria [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2007
SummaryPhotosynthetic prokaryotes have highly developed abilities to detect and react to environmental signals. Light sensing is one of the most important capabilities of organisms that use light for photosynthesis and photomorphogenesis. This review addresses photoreception in cyanobacteria from the perception of light through the physiological ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Light matters: phototaxis and signal transduction in unicellular cyanobacteria [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2004
SummaryMany photosynthetic microorganisms have evolved the ability to sense light quality and/or quantity and can steer themselves into optimal conditions within the environment. Phototaxis and gliding motility in unicellular cyanobacteria require type IV pili, which are multifunctional cell surface appendages.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

The BES1/BZR1 family transcription factor as critical regulator of plant stress resilience

open access: yesPlant Stress
Brassinosteroids (BR) are ubiquitous polyhydroxylated steroid hormones in plants that play a pivotal role in orchestrating plant growth, development, and stress mitigation.

Redox Regulation of a Light-Harvesting Antenna Complex in an Anoxygenic Phototroph

open access: yesmBio, 2019
The purple nonsulfur bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris is a model for understanding how a phototrophic organism adapts to changes in light intensity because it produces different light-harvesting (LH) complexes under high light (LH2) and low light ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Structural insight into PIF6-mediated red light signal transduction of plant phytochrome B

open access: yesCell Discovery
The red/far-red light receptor phytochrome B (phyB) plays essential roles in regulating various plant development processes. PhyB exists in two distinct photoreversible forms: the inactive Pr form and the active Pfr form.
