Urban experience alters lightness perception

open access: yes, 2018
We present the first empirical evidence that experience alters lightness perception. The role of experience in lightness perception was investigated through a cross-cultural comparison of two visual contrast phenomena: simultaneous lightness contrast and

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Lightness functions

open access: yes, 2012
Variants of the brightness function of a convex body K in R-n are investigated. The Lambertian lightness function L-K(v, w) gives the total reflected light resulting from illumination by a light source at infinity in the direction w that is visible when ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

What visual illusions tell us about underlying neural mechanisms and observer strategies for tackling the inverse problem of achromatic perception

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2015
Research in lightness perception centers on understanding the prior assumptions and processing strategies the visual system uses to parse the retinal intensity distribution (the proximal stimulus) into the surface reflectance and illumination components ...

Influence of pH on color variation and stability of cyanidin and cyanidin 3-O-β-glucopyranoside in aqueous solution

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food, 2021
Changes in color and color stability of cyanidin and cyanidin 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (Cy3Glc) in aqueous solutions were investigated at pHs from 0.5 to 13.1, by combination of colorimetry and spectrophotometry.

Lightness and perceptual transparency

open access: yes, 2006
To estimate intrinsic descriptors of objects in the environment, effective biological vision systems must ‘discount’ extrinsic image properties that arise from changes in viewing conditions.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Chemical Characteristics, and Effect of Inulin Extracted from Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) Root on Biochemical Properties of Synbiotic Yogurt at the End of Fermentation [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2018
The aim of this study was to produce synbiotic yogurt using different inulin levels (0, 1 and 2%) and probiotic bacteria. Inulin in two forms commercial and extracted from artichoke root was prepared, and chemical and sensory evaluation were performed ...

Evaluating Test Image Quality as a Function of illumation [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2010
The optical imaging systems, do not give a perfect and ideal image. Butmostly give images with limited resolutions i.e. give images with blur edges. Thisblurring attributed to two main reasons.
