Calculating Retinal Contrast from Scene Content: A Program
This paper describes a computer program for calculating the contrast image on the human retina from an array of scene luminances. We used achromatic transparency targets and measured test target's luminances with meters.

Effect of iron and ascorbic acid addition on dry infusion process and final color of pumpkin tissue [PDF]
In the present study, pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne ex Poiret) was used as raw material to produce sweet food fortified with iron (Fe) and ascorbic acid (AA). A dry infusion process with a subsequent air drying was applied.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Morphological Strategies in Ant Communities along Elevational Gradients in Three Mountain Ranges
Species traits often vary in a coordinated manner, making up an ecological strategy comprised of suites of interrelated traits. Environmental gradients, such as those along elevational gradients, provide an ideal venue in which to examine variation in ...

Neural Dynamics of 3-D Surface Perception: Figure-Ground Separation and Lightness Perception [PDF]
This article develops the FACADE theory of three-dimensional (3-D) vision to simulate data concerning how two-dimensional (2-D) pictures give rise to 3-D percepts of occluded and occluding surfaces.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A $t$-spanner of a weighted undirected graph $G=(V,E)$, is a subgraph $H$ such that $d_H(u,v)\le t\cdot d_G(u,v)$ for all $u,v\in V$. The sparseness of the spanner can be measured by its size (the number of edges) and weight (the sum of all edge weights),
