Triggered Calcium Lightning Programs Cochlear Development

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Summary: Before the onset of hearing, the developing inner ear generates spontaneous calcium signals that are thought to guide maturation. In this study, we discovered a rapid and widespread calcium flash—dubbed “Ca2+ lightning”—originating from supporting cells beneath the sensory hair cells, which triggers coordinated calcium waves across the entire ...

“Thinking Out Loud” and “Pivoting on the Fly”—An Empirical Review and Critical Incident Study of How Physicians Engage in Incidental Learning Amidst Complexity

open access: yesHuman Resource Development Quarterly, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores incidental learning among physicians navigating uncertainty during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Using a constructivist research design, we conducted a literature review of 13 empirical studies on incidental learning in complexity and analyzed critical incident interviews with 12 emergency medicine and intensive care physicians ...

Impact differences of topography and soil parameters on Cloud-to-Ground Lightning in the Panxi Plateau and the Chengdu Plain [PDF]

open access: yesGaoyuan qixiang
The Panxi Plateau serves as a critical transitional zone from the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to the Sichuan Basin, forms a "plateau-plain" step-transition belt with the Chengdu Plain.Due to its dramatic topographic relief and complex ...

Climatology and Trends of Sub‐Daily Precipitation Extremes in Croatia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Sub‐daily extreme precipitation indices reveal pronounced spatial variability, with the highest intensities and frequencies across the Adriatic region and the highlands. Seasonal and diurnal patterns highlight distinct regional behaviour, including summer maxima over the continental interior and nocturnal or early‐morning peaks along the Adriatic coast.

Climatic Drivers of the Area Burned by Winter Wildfires in Northern Italy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study investigates winter wildfires occurring between November and April in northern Italy over the period 2008–2022. By integrating high‐resolution burned‐area data with gridded climatic indices derived from 150 weather stations, it identifies spatial and temporal wildfire patterns, highlights the most fire‐prone mountain areas through pixel ...

Preharvest supplemental lighting enhances productivity and modulates postharvest quality in hydroponically grown Apulian unripe melon ‘Scopatizzo’ (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Preharvest light management is increasingly used to enhance yield and fruit quality in soilless systems, yet its effects on unripe melon fruits remain poorly understood. This study evaluated the impact of supplemental red–blue light‐emitting diode (LED) lighting applied during cultivation in a closed‐cycle hydroponic system on ...

Implementation and Performance Analysis of the Lightning Potential Index as a Forecasting Tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Severe weather events are responsible for hundreds of fatalities and millions of euros of damage every year in the Mediterranean basin. Lightning activity is a characteristic phenomenon of severe weather and often accompanies torrential rainfall, which ...
