Modelling Lightning Initiation and Attachment to Aircraft

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2014
We present initial calculations of the formation of streamers on an aircraft. A two-dimensional model has been used to determine electric field strengths and charge densities around solids of various geometries and electrical conductivities. The calculations take into account the distortion of the background electric fields by the solid material and ...

Climatology and Trends of Sub‐Daily Precipitation Extremes in Croatia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Sub‐daily extreme precipitation indices reveal pronounced spatial variability, with the highest intensities and frequencies across the Adriatic region and the highlands. Seasonal and diurnal patterns highlight distinct regional behaviour, including summer maxima over the continental interior and nocturnal or early‐morning peaks along the Adriatic coast.

Numerical Simulation of Channel Cutoff Threshold Effects on Reactivation Process

open access: yes应用气象学报
Lightning channel reactivation is intimately linked to channel decay and cutoff processes, yet the transition from a conductive plasma channel to a non-conductive state remains difficult to characterize.

Initiation of a lightning search using the lightning and airglow camera onboard the Venus orbiter Akatsuki

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2018
The existence of lightning discharges in the Venus atmosphere has been controversial for more than 30 years, with many positive and negative reports published.

Climatic Drivers of the Area Burned by Winter Wildfires in Northern Italy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study investigates winter wildfires occurring between November and April in northern Italy over the period 2008–2022. By integrating high‐resolution burned‐area data with gridded climatic indices derived from 150 weather stations, it identifies spatial and temporal wildfire patterns, highlights the most fire‐prone mountain areas through pixel ...

On the peak amplitude of lightning return stroke currents striking the sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Data gathered from the US National Lightning Detection Network (TM) (NLDN) show that the peak currents of lightning flashes striking the sea are significantly higher than those of lightning flashes striking the land.

Instrumentation for Sub-Ampere Lightning Current Measurement on a Tall Meteorological Tower in Complex Electromagnetic Environment

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Measurement of lightning current plays a critical role in the field of atmospheric electricity. Traditionally, Rogowski coils or low-resistance shunts were employed for measuring lightning currents in the range from several amperes up to several hundreds

The Lightning Differential Space framework: multiscale analysis of stroke and flash behavior [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques
Lightning flashes play a key role in the global electrical circuit, serving as markers of deep convection and indicators of climate variability.

Preharvest supplemental lighting enhances productivity and modulates postharvest quality in hydroponically grown Apulian unripe melon ‘Scopatizzo’ (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Preharvest light management is increasingly used to enhance yield and fruit quality in soilless systems, yet its effects on unripe melon fruits remain poorly understood. This study evaluated the impact of supplemental red–blue light‐emitting diode (LED) lighting applied during cultivation in a closed‐cycle hydroponic system on ...

Management of Absent Upper Esophageal Sphincter Opening After Neurological Injury

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the effects of swallowing therapy and cricopharyngeus (CP) muscle surgery on upper esophageal sphincter (UES) opening, oral intake, and airway protection in patients with absent UES opening following neurological injury. CP‐targeted surgeries were associated with improved bolus passage and oral intake, but persistent aspiration ...
