Examining Sub-Flash Properties of Lightning from GLM for Tracking and Intensification Characterization of Thunderstorms [PDF]
Current methodologies for operational use of lightning are developed using ground-based networks. Lightning detectors measure different characteristics of the flash, thus they don't observe the same lightning event in the same manner: i.e., flash rates ...

ABSTRACT Allergies are one of the major health challenges of our time, associated with a high individual burden of disease and high costs for the healthcare system. Given their prevalence, allergies are also highly relevant from a public health perspective. The development of allergic diseases is multifactorial. In addition to individual factors (e.g.,

First results from the TUS orbital detector in the extensive air shower mode
TUS (Tracking Ultraviolet Set-up), the first orbital detector of extreme energy cosmic rays (EECRs), those with energies above 50 EeV, was launched into orbit on April 28, 2016, as a part of the Lomonosov satellite scientific payload. The main aim of the

ABSTRACT Succinylation has been shown to promote lung cancer development, but its mechanism remains incompletely understood. KAT2A, a succinyltransferase, acts as an oncogene in multiple cancers, but its role in mediating lung cancer progression is unclear.

Ethics in AIED: Who cares? [PDF]
The field of AIED raises far-reaching ethical questions with important implications for students and educators. However, most AIED research, development and deployment has taken place in what is essentially a moral vacuum (for example, what happens if a ...

This multicenter retrospective study evaluated the use of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in 14 children with Dravet syndrome as a preventive strategy against febrile status epilepticus. Over a 6‐month period, IVIG was associated with a significant reduction in hospitalizations for febrile status epilepticus.

An Analysis of the Lightning Jump Algorithm Using Geostationary Lightning Mapper Flashes [PDF]
Lightning's relation to severe weather has been studied since the 1980's. The invention of the Lightning Mapping Array allowed for total lightning measurements in a 125 km operational range.

The Past Requires Reconciliation
Abstract This article presents three cases from the Orthodox Christian past that concern the defence of individuals and religious groups whose views differed from those of the official Orthodox Church. It also highlights the significance of the past in the Orthodox Christian context as a tradition that largely influences the behaviour of Orthodox ...

Using Total Lightning Observations to Enhance Lightning Safety [PDF]
Lightning is often the underrated threat faced by the public when it comes to dangerous weather phenomena. Typically, larger scale events such as floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes receive the vast majority of attention by both the general population and ...
