Observation of Lightning Discharges in Indonesia by Lightning Detection Network
2006 IEEE 8th International Conference on Properties and applications of Dielectric Materials, 2006A real-time lightning location network started to operate in Indonesia in mid 1995 and began providing reliable data in the end of the same year. The network consists of 8 signal receiving stations and works using the Time-Of-Arrival (TOA) technique.

Earth Networks Lightning Network and Dangerous Thunderstorm Alerts
2019 11th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Lightning (APL), 2019The Earth Networks Total Lightning Network (ENTLN) incorporates advanced lightning location technology delivering competitive lightning detection efficiency and location accuracy. ENTLN can detect both in-cloud (IC) and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning. It consists of over 1600 wideband sensors deployed in 40+ countries to detect lightning and generate ...

Lightning as an asymmetric branching network
Atmospheric Research, 2021Abstract The polarity asymmetry in lightning macroscopic behavior is well established for both cloud-to-ground and intracloud flashes. Negative polarity discharges to the ground most often consist of a series of strikes passing through one channel, while positive flashes, as a rule, are limited to one stroke; negative and positive leaders of ...

The East Coast Lightning Detection Network
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1986A magnetic direction-finding network for the detection of lightning cloud-to-ground strikes has been installed along the east coast of the United States. Most of the lightning occurring from Maine to Florida and as far west as Ohio is detected. Time, location, flash polarity, stroke count, and peak signal amplitude are recorded in real time.

Lightning characteristics on Java island, observed by lightning location network
11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999To investigate characteristics of lightning in the tropics, an observation using a lightning detection network has been carried out on the Java Island (Indonesia) since February 1994, employing the combination of MDF and TOA techniques with four stations.

Routing Payments on the Lightning Network
2018 IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things (iThings) and IEEE Green Computing and Communications (GreenCom) and IEEE Cyber, Physical and Social Computing (CPSCom) and IEEE Smart Data (SmartData), 2018Bitcoin is a new digital currency created with the aim of being decentralized, peer-to-peer, censorship-resistant, borderless, scarce, fast and cheap to use. Since Bitcoin main way of operating is based on broadcast communications, e.g. all transactions of the currency reach all network peers, how to achieve scalability is one of the most important ...

An East Coast Lightning Detection Network
Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 1983Abstract A magnetic direction-finding network for the detection of lightning cloud-to-ground strikes has been installed, and it records most of the ground flashes from Maine to North Carolina and as far west as Ohio. This area includes or touches fourteen states and contains over a quarter of the population of the United States.

Forecasting lightning probabilities derived from the Lightning Potential Index using neural networks
2023Forecasting the occurrence of thunderstorms is a well-known challenge in weather prediction. Since a thunderstorm is by definition accompanied by at least one lightning, we aim to forecast the occurrence of at least one lightning within a pre-defined area and a pre-defined time-interval.

International Conference on Lightning [amp ] Static Electricity (ICOLSE 2015), 2015
The Japanese Lightning Detection Network (JLDN) has been operated to observed lightning occurring in Japan and its surrounding areas since 1998. The frequency of lightning flash is an important parameter for creating lightning protection designs. If the location accuracy of the Lightning Location System (LLS) is not good, it is very difficult to ...
