Naphthalene Analogues of Lignans

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2002
The methodology for the synthesis of podophyllotoxin and thuriferic acid-type lignans has been applied to derivatives carrying a naphthalene moiety. Starting from the 1,3-dithiane of 2-naphthaldehyde afforded the expected analogues in the 2,1-naphthalene series.

Silver(I)-Catalyzed Regioselective Construction of Highly Substituted α-Naphthols and Its Application toward Expeditious Synthesis of Lignan Natural Products.

Organic Letters, 2015
A novel route has been developed for regioselective synthesis of highly substituted α-naphthols, binaphthols, and anthracenol through silver(I) catalyzed C(sp(3))-H/C(sp)-H, C(sp(2))-H/C(sp)-H functionalization of β-ketoesters and alkynes, respectively ...

Aryltetralone lignans and 7,8-seco-lignans from Holostylis reniformis

Phytochemistry, 2004
Aryltetralone lignans and two 7,8-seco-lignans were isolated from the acetone and hexane extracts of the roots of Holostylis reniformis, together with (-)-galbacin. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods.

A lignan and a lignan derivative from the fruit of Forsythia suspensa

Phytochemistry Letters, 2019
Abstract The chemical investigation of a 95% ethanol extract of the fruit of Forsythia suspensa resulted in the isolation of one new lignan and one new lignan derivative, forsythialan E-F, along with two known lignans. Their structures were established based on extensive spectroscopic data analyses, including UV, IR, HRESIMS, 1D NMR and 2D NMR ...

Flaxseed and its lignan and oil components: can they play a role in reducing the risk of and improving the treatment of breast cancer?

Applied physiology, nutrition, and metabolism = Physiologie appliquee, nutrition et metabolisme, 2014
Flaxseed (FS), rich in the phytoestrogen lignans and α-linolenic acid-rich oil, has been suggested to have an anticancer effect. Questions remain whether FS and its lignan and oil components are effective in reducing breast cancer risk and tumour growth,

Cytotoxic lignans from Podophyllum, and the nomenclature of aryltetralin lignans

Phytochemistry, 1981
Abstract Roots of Podophyllum hexandrum and P. peltatum both contain (1 R ,2 R ,3 R )-desoxypodophyllotoxin [(1α,2α,3β)- desoxypodophyllotoxin] and the previously unreported (1 R ,2 R ,3 R )-podophyllotoxone [(1α,2α,3α)-podophyllotoxone]. Thermal isomerization of (loc,2ct,3fl)-podophyllotoxone readily occurs to yield (1α,2α,3α)-podophyllotoxone ...

Chromatographic analysis of lignans

Journal of Chromatography A, 2006
Methods and procedures for analysis of lignans in trees and other plants are reviewed. The importance of cautious sample handling and pretreatment procedures to avoid contamination, loss of sample, and unwanted chemical reactions is discussed. Sequential extraction with a non-polar solvent followed by extraction with acetone or ethanol is recommended ...

The lignans of Podophyllum

2002
Abstract Lignans are a widely distributed class of dimeric phenylpropanoid derivatives, many of which have strong antimicrobial, antiviral, or antifeedant activity and thus play important roles in plant defense. Of more restricted taxonomic distribution, the aryltetralin lignans have been found in highest abundance in plants of the genus Podophyllum

Hepatoprotective activity of twelve novel 7'-hydroxy lignan glucosides from Arctii Fructus.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2014
Twelve novel 7'-hydroxy lignan glucosides (1-12), including two benzofuran-type neolignans, two 8-O-4' neolignans, two dibenzylbutyrolactone lignans, and six tetrahydrofuranoid lignans, together with six known lignan glucosides (13-18), were isolated ...

Lignans from Mosla scabra

Phytochemistry, 2000
Two new cyclobutane-type lignans, named moslolignans A and B, together with two known ones, andamanicin and magnosalin, were isolated from the whole plant of Mosla scabra. Their structures were established as 1beta*,2beta*,3alpha*,4alpha*-1,2-dimethyl-3-(3- methoxy-4,5-methylene-dioxyphenyl)-4-(2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-cycl obutane and 1beta*,2beta ...
