Characterization of lignin peroxidase-encoding genes from lignin-degrading basidiomycetes

Gene, 1990
Two closely linked lignin peroxidase (LPO)-encoding genes (lpo) from Phanerochaete chrysosporium were isolated. Nucleotide sequence studies indicated that the two genes are separated by 1.3 kb of flanking DNA and transcribed in opposite directions. Cloned P. chrysosporium lpo gene probes have been shown to hybridize to multiple sequences present in the

Bacterial degradation of lignin

Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 1988
Abstract During the year 1983, there was a breakthrough in the field of lignin biodegradation when fungal ligninases and their hydrogen peroxide requirement were described. A comparable progression has not yet occurred with ligninolytic bacteria, although it is expected to take place in the near future once depolymerizing enzymes are isolated ...

Lignin degradation by bacteria

2002
Publisher Summary The complex aromatic polymer lignin comprises about 25% of the land based biomass on earth, and its recycling is a vital component of the earth's carbon cycle. Its breakdown involves multiple biochemical reactions. Though the role of fungal lignin peroxidases has been well established only in recent years, bacterial lignin ...

Enzymes of Lignin Degradation

1991
Lignin occurs in the matrix of plant cell walls. It is a complex heterogeneous polymer which in association with cellulose and hemicellulose provides strength and rigidity to plant cells. In supporting the plant cell structure, it gives shape and form to the whole plant. Although lignin is found in the middle lamellae between cells, it is most abundant
