Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Efficient Likelihood Evaluation of State-Space Representations [PDF]

open access: yes
We develop a numerical procedure that facilitates efficient likelihood evaluation in applications involving non-linear and non-Gaussian state-space models.

The R Package metaLik for Likelihood Inference in Meta-Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2012
Meta-analysis is a statistical method for combining information from different studies about the same issue of interest. Meta-analysis is widely diffuse in medical investigation and more recently it received a growing interest also in social disciplines.

The Concept of Statistical Evidence, Historical Roots and Current Developments

open access: yesEncyclopedia
One can argue that one of the main roles of the subject of statistics is to characterize what the evidence in the collected data says about questions of scientific interest.

The application of Dempster-Shafer theory demonstrated with justification provided by legal evidence [PDF]

open access: yesJudgment and Decision Making, 2007
In forecasting and decision making, people can and often do represent a degree of belief in some proposition. At least two separate constructs capture such degrees of belief: likelihoods capturing evidential balance and support capturing evidential ...

Guidance on Communication of Uncertainty in Scientific Assessments

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2019
This document provides guidance for communicators on how to communicate the various expressions of uncertainty described in EFSA's document: ‘Guidance on uncertainty analysis in scientific assessments’. It also contains specific guidance for assessors on

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Estimating the Complier Average Causal Effect with Non-Ignorable Missing Outcomes Using Likelihood Analysis

open access: yesMathematics
Missing data problems arise in randomized trials, which complicates the inference of causal effects if the missing mechanism is non-ignorable. We tackle the challenge of identifying and estimating the complier average causal effect parameters under non ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Reduce computation in profile empirical likelihood method

open access: yes
Since its introduction by Owen in [29, 30], the empirical likelihood method has been extensively investigated and widely used to construct confidence regions and to test hypotheses in the literature.
