Plasticity, limit analysis, and limiting equilibrium
1994A system of surface and body forces applied to a body will cause changes in the stresses and strains within it. The changes in strain will usually be partly elastic and immediately recoverable, but may also result in part from irrecoverable plastic yield. As the forces increase, a growing part of the body may reach the limit of its shear strength. Once

Resource limited and equilibrium models of populations
Oecologia, 1981The logistic equation has been used as the basis of two distinct models of population dynamics, a resource limited model and an equilibrium model. It is argued that although the two models are very different, the distinction between them has been obscured by the use of the same terminology for the parameters of both.

Limits of equilibrium methodology
2017This chapter uses a dialogue between an ‘inquisitive student’ and an ‘economics teacher’ to expose a fundamental problem with how economics is taught at the introductory level. It illustrates the need to address the questions of equilibrium stability (does an equilibrium return if disturbed) and methodological individualism (the requirement that in an ...

The Thermodynamic Equilibrium Limit
2013In this chapter, we discuss the correspondence of the formalism developed thus far with known results from equilibrium thermal field theory.

Abstract The concept of a unique condition for the stability of ice jams in rivers at breakup, which may occur at a specific site for a given water discharge, was first proposed from theoretical considerations. With similar considerations, it was also shown that the stability also depends on the thickness of ice jams but that under certain conditions

Walrasian equilibrium as limit of competitive equilibrium without divisible [PDF]
We study economies where all commodities are indivisible at the individual level, but perfectly divisible at the aggregate level. Under general hypotheses over the economy, the ain contribution of this paper is the prove that a rationing equilibrium converge to aWalrasian equilibrium of a limit economy when the level of indivisibility become small.

Extensions to the Limit Equilibrium and Limit Analysis in Geomechanics
2018This article is an extended abstract that summarizes the author’s work on the methods of slices to render practicable approaches to slope stability, earth pressure and bearing capacity analysis. They are derived based on the upper-bound and lower-bound theory of plasticity and extended to the 3D-area.
