Some Limitations of Competitive Equilibrium

Southern Economic Journal, 1950
5. Since the firm can influence neither the price of its product nor the prices of its inputs, the profit incentive finds expression in expansion of output, efficient combination of inputs, and improved production techniques. 6. With free access, new firms are attracted to areas of the economy where extraordinary profits are being earned.

Thermostatic equilibrium in the classical limit

Il Nuovo Cimento B Series 11, 1992
The conditions for thermostatic equilibrium for large systems, both conservative and nonconservative, are examined. It is found, in general, that nonconservative systems cannot attain equilibrium. In certain cases where velocity-dependent forces exist (e.g., for charged particles in an electromagnetic field) equilibrium may be attained.

Pseudostatic Limit Equilibrium Analysis

2008
Strong earthquake motion used to destroy many brick structures and killed many people. Figure 7.1 illustrates an example in Tokyo in which a brick tower of 12 storeys was destroyed in the middle. In those days there was no clear idea to design structures against earthquake effects.

Hydrostatic Equilibrium and Its Limitations

1969
The most important characteristic of any celestial body is, indeed, its mass; and in the case of the Moon this is known (cf. Chapter 1) to be 7.35 × 1025 g or 1.2% of that of the Earth. This mass is, moreover, contained inside a globe of r ( = 1738 km mean radius, rendering its mean density ρm = 3.34 g/cm3.
