Emergent AdS_3 in the Zero Entropy Extremal Black Holes
We investigate the zero entropy limit of the near horizon geometries of D=4 and D=5 general extremal black holes with SL(2,R)xU(1)^{D-3} symmetry. We derive some conditions on the geometries from expectation of regularity.

Shape mode analysis exposes movement patterns in biology: flagella and flatworms as case studies. [PDF]
We illustrate shape mode analysis as a simple, yet powerful technique to concisely describe complex biological shapes and their dynamics. We characterize undulatory bending waves of beating flagella and reconstruct a limit cycle of flagellar oscillations,

Many speech and music analysis and processing schemes rely on an estimate of the fundamental frequency f0 of periodic signal components. Most established schemes apply rather unspecific signal models such as sinusoidal models to the estimation problem ...

Nonadiabatic quantum pumping in mesoscopic nanostructures
We consider a nonadiabatic quantum pumping phenomena in a ballistic narrow constriction. The pumping is induced by a potential that has both spatial and temporal periodicity characterized by $K$ and $\Omega$. In the zero frequency ($\Omega=0$) limit, the

ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Photonic-Crystal Josephson Traveling-Wave Parametric Amplifier
A microwave amplifier combining noise performances as close as possible to the quantum limit with large bandwidth and high saturation power is highly desirable for many solid-state quantum technologies.
