Analytical formulation of overhead transmission lines loadability characteristics

2018 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM), 2018
This paper deals with the loadability characteristics of overhead transmission lines (OHLs). The target is to provide a general analytical formulation of the loadability characteristics of uncompensated OHLs. This is a completely new approach: no previously published work has adopted an analytical approach to characterize the different regions of the ...

Loadability curves for the new Terna's “5F” high capacity overhead lines

2023 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2023 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2023
Terna, the Italian Transmission System Operator, has recently introduced a new generation of HV and EHV lines (the so-called '5-phases' or 5F) allowing for a substantial reduction of EMF population exposure and increase of power transfer capacity, if compared to conventional OHL.

The Loadability of Overhead Transmission Lines—Part I: Analysis of Single Circuits

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2014
This paper provides a methodology for a thorough technical comparison between traditional three-phase ac lines, on the one hand, and possible (in some cases non-conventional) alternative solutions that include HVDC lines, four-phase ac lines and combined ac-dc lines, on the other.

Relay loadability challenges experienced in long lines

2016 69th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers (CPRE), 2016
As discussed throughout this paper, the employment of load encroachment and OOS blinders make it difficult to ensure that the relay will operate for symmetrical faults when these two functions are enabled and still comply with the standard. The use of current differential relays solves this issue when these type of relays are available.

Comparison between single-circuit overhead transmission lines based on line costs and loadability

International Symposium on Power Electronics Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2012
Previous papers by the same authors have compared traditional and alternative solutions for single-circuit overhead transmission lines, by considering three-phase AC lines as the former, non-conventional four-phase AC lines and monopolar HVDC lines as the latter.

Application of dynamic thermal rating: Overhead line critical spans identification under weather dependent optimized sensor placement

, 2020
Dynamic thermal rating (DTR) for an overhead transmission line is a viable and cost-effective technique based on real weather conditions to mitigate congestion and avoid load shedding for reliable transfer of the required electricity.

Online Valuing the Loadability of Transmission Line

Journal of Information and Computational Science, 2013
Based on dynamic thermal rating technologies and taking into account of voltage drop and steady-statestability limitation, the model and algorithm of online valuing loadability of transmission line under operation are established. Considering the generator units voltage regulation characteristics, the variable parameter dual-port Norton equivalent ...
