Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Linear discrepancy is Π2-hard to approximate

open access: yesInformation Processing Letters, 2021
In this note, we prove that the problem of computing the linear discrepancy of a given matrix is $Π_2$-hard, even to approximate within $9/8 - ε$ factor for any $ε> 0$. This strengthens the NP-hardness result of Li and Nikolov [ESA 2020] for the exact version of the problem, and answers a question posed by them.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Two Mappings Related To Semi-Inner Products And Their Applications in Geometry of Normed Linear Spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
In this paper we introduce two mappings associated with the lower and upper semiinner product (.,.)i and (.,.)s and with semi-inner products [.,.] (in the sense of Lumer) which generate the norm of a real normed linear space, and study properties of ...

Cálculo do Volume Molar de um Gás de van der Waals em SCILAB: o Método Newton-Raphson na Resolução de um Problema Físico-Químico

open access: yesOrbital: The Electronic Journal of Chemistry, 2014
The use of software in chemical calculations is a constant reality in both laboratories as well as in simulation processes of chemical transformations.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Finite Difference Approximation for Linear Stochastic Partial Differential Equations with Method of Lines [PDF]

open access: yes
A stochastic partial differential equation, or SPDE, describes the dynamics of a stochastic process defined on a space-time continuum. This paper provides a new method for solving SPDEs based on the method of lines (MOL).

Singular Perturbation Approximation for Linear Systems with Lévy Noise

open access: yes, 2017
To solve a stochastic linear evolution equation numerically, finite dimensional approximations are commonly used. For a good approximation, one might end up with a sequence of ordinary stochastic linear equations of high order.
