Methodology for the Differential Classification of Dengue and Chikungunya According to the PAHO 2022 Diagnostic Guide

open access: yesViruses
Arboviruses such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya present similar symptoms in the early stages, which complicates their differential and timely diagnosis. In 2022, the PAHO published a guide to address this challenge. This study proposes a methodological

Imputation and Price Indexes: Theory and Evidence from the International Price Program [PDF]

open access: yes
The goal of this paper is to theoretically and empirically demonstrate the consequences of different imputation methods, using recent data from the International Price Program. We suppose that prices are missing due to random or erratic reporting.

Numerical convergence of nonlinear nonlocal continuum models to local elastodynamics

open access: yes, 2018
We quantify the numerical error and modeling error associated with replacing a nonlinear nonlocal bond-based peridynamic model with a local elasticity model or a linearized peridynamics model away from the fracture set. The nonlocal model treated here is

Effect of chemotherapy on passenger mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Changes in passenger mutation load and predicted immunotherapy response after chemotherapy treatment. Tumor cells rich with passenger mutations have increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. Correlation of passenger mutations with neoantigen load suggests highly mutated clones promote a more effective response to immunotherapy, and therefore, first‐line ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Towards a More General Type of Univariate Constrained Interpolation With Fractal Splines

open access: yes, 2015
Recently, in [Electronic Transaction on Numerical Analysis, 41 (2014), pp. 420-442] authors introduced a new class of rational cubic fractal interpolation functions with linear denominators via fractal perturbation of traditional nonrecursive rational ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

An Improved Medical Image Classification Algorithm Based on Adam Optimizer

open access: yesMathematics
Due to the complexity and illegibility of medical images, it brings inconvenience and difficulty to the diagnosis of medical personnel. To address these issues, an optimization algorithm called GSL(Gradient sine linear) based on Adam algorithm ...

Piecewise-Linear Interpolation between Polygonal Slices

open access: yesComputer Vision and Image Understanding, 1994
Summary: We present a new technique for piecewise-linear surface reconstruction from a series of parallel polygonal cross sections. This is an important problem in medical imaging, surface reconstruction from topographic data, and other applications.
