Quadrupole excitation of ions in linear quadrupole ion traps with added octopole fields [PDF]
Modeling and experimental studies of quadrupole excitation of ions in linear quadrupole traps with added octopole fields are described. An approximate solution to the equations of motion of ions trapped in a quadrupole with added octopole and dodecapole fields, with quadrupole excitation and damping is given.

Micromotion compensation using dark and bright ion species
Stray electric fields induce excess micromotion in ion traps, limiting experimental performance. We present a new micromotion-compensation technique that utilizes a dark ion in a multi-species bright-dark-bright linear ion crystal.

Simulating the performance of a distance-3 surface code in a linear ion trap
We explore the feasibility of implementing a small surface code with 9 data qubits and 8 ancilla qubits, commonly referred to as surface-17, using a linear chain of ^171 Yb ^+ ions.

Nanoparticle Stored with an Atomic Ion in a Linear Paul Trap
Radiofrequency (RF) traps enable highly controlled interactions between charged particles, including reactions between cold molecular ions, sympathetic cooling of one ion species with another, and quantum logic spectroscopy. However, the charge-to-mass ( Q /

Fast switching of the rf trapping field in an ion trap
Radiofrequency ion traps are essential for many experiments, ranging from quantum computing to physical chemistry and fundamental science. However, in some circumstances the trapping fields may cause undesired effects and need to be switched off briefly ...

Linear ion trap fabricated using rapid manufacturing technology [PDF]
This article presents the design, construction, and test results of a linear ion trap, fabricated using digital light processing (DLP), which is a low-cost 3D layer-based manufacturing technique. The ion trap was incorporated into a portable mass spectrometer system and experimental mass spectrum was obtained for methamphetamine (m/z 182), cocaine (m/z

Simulating cold atomic hydrogen production in linear radiofrequency ion traps
We simulated the motion of ${\mathrm{BaH^{+}}}$ molecular ions which are sympathetically cooled by laser-cooled ${\mathrm{Ba^{+}}}$ ions in linear quadrupole and octupole radiofrequency (RF) ion traps.

Modes of oscillation in radiofrequency Paul traps
We examine the time-dependent dynamics of ion crystals in radiofrequency traps. The problem of stable trapping of general three-dimensional crystals is considered and the validity of the pseudopotential approximation is discussed.
