Effects of aquatic exercises on upper limb physical function after a humeral shaft fracture – a time series analysis

open access: yesHuman Movement
Purpose Humeral shaft fractures account for 1.2% of all fractures in adults. Regardless of the treatment approach, the consequences of immobility can lead to decreased functional capacity in these individuals.

Model-based Prediction of Length of Stay for Rehabilitating Stroke Patients

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2009
Accurate length-of-stay (LOS) estimates have an impact on medical costs for stroke patients. Most studies have reported only descriptive sample means or have provided linear-model-based estimates for LOS.

Generalized linear models

open access: yes, 2015
AbstractGeneralized Linear Modeling (GLM) unifies several statistical techniques, providing a stable and modular foundation on which to build a useful working knowledge of statistical modeling. GLMs enable a re-interpretation of previously learned ANOVA and regression techniques and integrate well with more advanced modeling techniques introduced in ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Using n-alkanes to estimate diet composition of herbivores: a novel mathematical approach

open access: yesAnimal, 2007
N-alkanes are long-chain saturated hydrocarbons occurring in plant cuticles that can be used as chemical markers for estimating the diet composition of herbivores.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Araştırmalarda Uygun İstatistiksel Tekniğin Belirlenmesinde Normallik ve Homojenlik İhlallerinin Etkisinin İlgili Literatür Bağlamında Değerlendirilmesi

open access: yesJournal of Psychometric Research
Araştırmalarda uygun istatistiksel tekniğin belirlenmesi, araştırmanın metodolojik tasarımının yanı sıra analizin amacı, örneklem büyüklüğü ve yapısı, verilerin ve veri setinin karakteristiğinin de dikkate alınmasını gerektiren zorlayıcı bir aşamadır ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Bayesian outliers functions for linear models. [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper introduces two new diagnostic tools: the Bayesian outlier curve (BOC) and the Sequential Bayesian outlier curve (SEBOC). Both are built using the posterior odds for every possible number of outliers in a scale contaminated linear model.
