THE BIVARIATE CORRELATION COEFFICIENT: FROM CONCEPT TO APPLICATION

open access: yesCentral Asian Journal of Medical Hypotheses and Ethics
The bivariate correlation coefficient is among the most fundamental and widely applied measures in statistical analysis, offering a quantitative assessment of the association between two continuous variables.

Min-Max, Min-Max-Median, and Min-Max-IQR in Deciding Optimal Diagnostic Thresholds: Performances of a Logistic Regression Approach on Simulated and Real Data

open access: yesApplied Medical Informatics, 2023
Combining biomarkers and their statistics is used to increase the prediction performance of a diagnosis, but no gold standard method exists. We introduced and evaluated an approach using linear combinations of summary-based statistics tested in logistic ...

Insensitivity Regions and Outliers in Mixed Models with Constraints

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2016
A procedure for detecting outliers in regular linear regression models with constraints on mean value parameters is presented. A problem, how unknown variance components influence the optimum quality of used test statistics, is studied by sensitivity ...

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Measuring statistical anxiety and attitudes toward statistics: The development of a comprehensive Danish instrument (HFS-R)

open access: yesCogent Education, 2018
Motivated by experience with students’ psychological barriers to learning statistics, we modified and extended the Statistical Anxiety Rating Scale (STARS) to develop a contemporary and valid (face, content, criterion and construct) Danish measure of ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Estimating Traffic Accidents in Turkey Using Differential Evolution Algorithm

open access: yesSelected Scientific Papers: Journal of Civil Engineering, 2017
Estimating traffic accidents play a vital role to apply road safety procedures. This study proposes Differential Evolution Algorithm (DEA) models to estimate the number of accidents in Turkey.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Data and non-linear models for the estimation of biomass growth and carbon fixation in managed forests

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
The data and analyses presented support the research article entitled “Coupling partial-equilibrium and dynamic biogenic carbon models to assess future transport scenarios in France” (Albers et al., 2019).

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
