Fatigue Strength of Notched or Shouldered Cast Stainless Steel Specimens. Examination by Linear Notch Mechanics.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series A, 1997
Fatigue tests were carried out on notched and shouldered specimens of a cast stainless steel under rotating bending and reversed torsion. It is shown that the fatigue strength of a notched or a shouldered specimen having an arbitrary size under the two loading conditions can be predicted systematically based on the concept of the linear notch mechanics

Notch signaling pathway in human vascular smooth muscle cell differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Notch receptor-ligand interactions are a highly conserved mechanism, originally described in developmental studies using Drosophilae, that regulate inter-cell communication and dictate, in part, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) fate in response to ...

Characterization of the mode II interlayer fracture toughness of two three-dimensional printed polymers

open access: yesPolymer Testing
The increasing use of three-dimensional (3D) printed polymer components in critical applications, such as in aerospace, requires accurate approaches for measuring the special mode II fracture toughness.

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

Proposal of Nonlinear Crack Mechanics and Nonlinear Notch Mechanics. An Attempt of Extension from Linear to Nonlinear.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series A, 1994
The maximum elastic stress in a cracked or notched body is not a unique parameter that controls the failure or fracture of the body. Therefore, we must determine the measure of severity in a cracked or notched body in order to predict the strength of real objects from the strength of specimens.

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

A study of Notch signalling in developmental angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Blood vessel patterning during angiogenesis is a guided process. Endothelial tip cells located at the end of vascular sprouts are important for vessel guidance.

Unraveling the epigenetic code in cancer cell–tumor microenvironment crosstalk

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic regulation is a key driver of cancer development and progression. Diverse epigenetic alterations in cancer cells and components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrate their communication through multiple mechanisms. We discuss how the epigenetic code coordinates bidirectional cancer cell–TME crosstalk to promote cancer progression ...

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.

Examination of rotating bending fatigue of HIP-sintered SMF3035 by linear notch mechanics.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series A, 1991
Fatigue tests of HIP'ed SMF3035 were conducted on specimens with a circumferential groove whose diameters were different. As a result, it is successfully confirmed that linear notch mechanics (LNM) is available for the examination of notch effects in the fatigue of HIP'ed SMF3035.
