Free Space Optical Communications Link Budget Estimation

Lasers, Sources and Related Photonic Devices, 2010
This paper describes a new methodology of estimating the free space optical communications link budgets to be expected in conditions of severe turbulence. Comparisons will be given between theory and field measurements.

Link budget analysis for 350 GHz communication link

2013 US National Committee of URSI National Radio Science Meeting (USNC-URSI NRSM), 2013
Communication systems in the free band beyond 300 GHz are of interest for short distance communication. To assess the feasibility of such a communication system, a realistic link budget analysis is needed. Such link budget analyses have been conducted before based on TDS (optical) measurements and theoretical loss models.

Non-Terrestrial Networks: Link Budget Analysis

ICC 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2020
Satellite Communication systems represent a solid solution to extend and complement terrestrial networks in un-/under-served areas. The recent standardisation endeavours within 3GPP led to the Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) study item for New Radio, aimed at deploying satellite systems either stand-alone or as integration to terrestrial networks in ...

Statistical Optical Link Budget Analysis

2019 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2019
In this paper, we describe work on extending statistical analysis methods to optical communications links, with a primary focus on intensity modulated, direct detected photon-counting channel utilizing pulse-position-modulation (PPM). We performed analysis on the relationship between bit error rate (BER) requirement, statistical characteristics of the ...

Link Budget Analysis for Terahertz Fixed Wireless Links

IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology, 2012
Due to the broad bandwidths, terahertz (THz)-waves offer the possibility for wireless transmission of high data rates. Especially, broadband wireless access over short ranges and fixed wireless links based on THz-waves are very promising. They can be incorporated as a bridge for optical networks or an alternative for the connection of wireless stations

Novel link budget modelling for NLOS submarine optical wireless links

Imaging and Applied Optics Congress 2022 (3D, AOA, COSI, ISA, pcAOP), 2022
We present an analytic expression for the link budget for NLOS submarine optical wireless links. The results show that the optimum value of the receiver angle depends mainly on scattering and the transmitter source parameters.

Signal Propagation and Link Budget

2000
This chapter deals with various phenomena occurring whena a signal propagates between a satellite and a user terminal. The basic effect is signal attenuation due to free space loss. Since the attenuation increases with distance it is especially severe in the satellite scenario.
