Free Space Optical Communications Link Budget Estimation
Lasers, Sources and Related Photonic Devices, 2010This paper describes a new methodology of estimating the free space optical communications link budgets to be expected in conditions of severe turbulence. Comparisons will be given between theory and field measurements.

Link budget analysis for 350 GHz communication link
2013 US National Committee of URSI National Radio Science Meeting (USNC-URSI NRSM), 2013Communication systems in the free band beyond 300 GHz are of interest for short distance communication. To assess the feasibility of such a communication system, a realistic link budget analysis is needed. Such link budget analyses have been conducted before based on TDS (optical) measurements and theoretical loss models.

Novel link budget modelling for NLOS submarine optical wireless links
Imaging and Applied Optics Congress 2022 (3D, AOA, COSI, ISA, pcAOP), 2022We present an analytic expression for the link budget for NLOS submarine optical wireless links. The results show that the optimum value of the receiver angle depends mainly on scattering and the transmitter source parameters.

Signal Propagation and Link Budget
2000This chapter deals with various phenomena occurring whena a signal propagates between a satellite and a user terminal. The basic effect is signal attenuation due to free space loss. Since the attenuation increases with distance it is especially severe in the satellite scenario.
