Effective communication with the patient

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Review, 2005
The chronic and slowly progressive nature of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can create difficulties in effective communication between healthcare provider and patient.

Insight into Shiga toxin genes encoded by Escherichia coli O157 from whole genome sequencing [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2015
The ability of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) to cause severe illness in humans is determined by multiple host factors and bacterial characteristics, including Shiga toxin (Stx) subtype.

A new family of links topologically, but not smoothly, concordant to the Hopf link [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2017
We give new examples of 2-component links with linking number one and unknotted components that are topologically concordant to the positive Hopf link, but not smoothly so – in addition, they are not smoothly concordant to the positive Hopf link with a knot tied in the first component.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Correlation of triglyceride glucose index with all cause mortality in acute myocardial infarction patients following percutaneous coronary intervention

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is a dependable indicator of IR, with numerous studies underscoring its influence on Cardiovascular disease.

La volition, entre motivation et cognition : quelle place dans la pratique des étudiants, quels liens avec la motivation et la cognition?

open access: yesRevue Internationale de Pédagogie de l’Enseignement Supérieur, 2019
This paper reports the findings of a study by the AdAPTE group as part of its research on the volition of students in higher education. Based on the results of a survey among nearly 2,200 first-year students in 16 institutions of higher education, it ...

Links with non-trivial Alexander polynomial which are topologically concordant to the Hopf link [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 2019
We give infinitely many 2-component links with unknotted components which are topologically concordant to the Hopf link, but not smoothly concordant to any 2-component link with trivial Alexander polynomial. Our examples are pairwise non-concordant.

Embedding 3-manifolds in 4-space and link concordance via double branched covers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The double branched cover is a construction which provides a link between problems in knot theory and other questions in low-dimensional topology. Given a knot in a 3-manifold, the double branched cover gives a natural way of associating a 3-manifold to ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Bioinformatic analysis of patient-derived ASPS gene expressions and ASPL-TFE3 fusion transcript levels identify potential therapeutic targets. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Gene expression data, collected from ASPS tumors of seven different patients and from one immortalized ASPS cell line (ASPS-1), was analyzed jointly with patient ASPL-TFE3 (t(X;17)(p11;q25)) fusion transcript data to identify disease-specific pathways ...
