Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Von der Schneeflocke zur Lawine: Möglichkeiten der Nutzung freier Zitationsdaten in Bibliotheken

open access: yeso-bib.

Linking Social, Open, and Enterprise Data [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 4th International Conference on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics (WIMS14), 2014
The new world of big data, of the LOD cloud, of the app economy, and of social media means that organisations no longer own, much less control, all the data they need to make the best informed business decisions. In this paper, we describe how we built a system using Linked Data principles to bring in data from Web 2.0 sites (LinkedIn, Salesforce), and

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Open Data as a key factor for developing expert systems: a perspective from Spain [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence, 2013
The open data movement is relatively new but very significant, and potentially powerful. The overall intention is to make local, regional and national data available in a form that allows for direct manipulation.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Linked Data Integration with Conflicts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Linked Data have emerged as a successful publication format and one of its main strengths is its fitness for integration of data from multiple sources. This gives them a great potential both for semantic applications and the enterprise environment where data integration is crucial.
