Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.

STUDIES ON A NOVEL RECOMBINANT LIPASE A FROM BACILLUS SUBTILIS FS2

open access: yesASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development, 2017
A strain of Bacillus subtilis FS2 isolated from a traditional fish source in Vietnam has been shown to produce an enzyme possessing both a gelatinase and a lipase A (LipA) activity when tested on agar plates containing 0.1% tributyrin and 0.3% gelatine ...

p16 Overexpression and Human Papillomavirus Positivity in More Than 1000 Penile Cancers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Penile cancer is a severe disease, and a large proportion is related to high‐risk (hr) human papillomavirus (HPV). P16 is used as an immunohistochemical marker of HPV in clinical diagnostics. Population‐based data on the prevalence of p16 in penile cancer is scarce.

Comparative genomic analysis reveals 2-oxoacid dehydrogenase complex lipoylation correlation with aerobiosis in archaea. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Metagenomic analyses have advanced our understanding of ecological microbial diversity, but to what extent can metagenomic data be used to predict the metabolic capacity of difficult-to-study organisms and their abiotic environmental interactions?

Target‐site mutations and phenotypic failure in Myzus persicae against pyrethroids and carbamates in central Europe

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Molecular screening of 140 field‐collected Myzus persicae aphids revealed target‐site mutations L1014F, M918L, M918T, and L932F in the sodium channel and S431F in Ace2. The M918L mutation was the primary driver of high pyrethroid (cypermethrin) resistance, while S431F served as a definitive marker for carbamate (pirimicarb) resistance.

Interpreting coronary artery disease GWAS results: A functional genomics approach assessing biological significance.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have implicated 58 loci in coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the biological basis for these associations, the relevant genes, and causative variants often remain uncertain. Since the vast majority of GWAS loci

Metabolic Profiling of Circulating and Tumour‐Infiltrating T Cells Uncovers Bioenergetic Checkpoints Linked With Immune and Clinical Skewing in Melanoma Patients

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
In this study, we revealed the disturbed metabolic status of circulating and tumour‐infiltrating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in melanoma patients through targeted metabolomic and lipidomic (on sorted subsets) and at single cell level using the SCENITH method.

Mutations identified in a cohort of Mexican patients with lysosomal acid lipase deficiency

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2019
Introduction and Objectives: Lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the LIPA gene, located on the long arm of chromosome 10 (10q23.31).

Overproduction of α-Lipoic Acid by Gene Manipulated Escherichia coli. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Alpha-lipoic acid (LA) is an important enzyme cofactor widely used by organisms and is also a natural antioxidant for the treatment of pathologies driven by low levels of endogenous antioxidants.

The association between 24‐hr movement patterns and self‐harm incidence in adolescence

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Self‐harm is a pressing public health issue, particularly among adolescents. Physical activity is associated with reduced self‐harm among youths, but evidence is limited. Most studies rely on self‐reported measures and are primarily focused on moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA), often overlooking the role of light‐intensity ...
