Enhancing Lipid Production of Dunaliella tertiolecta by Manipulating the Interactive Effect of Salinity and Nitrogen [PDF]

open access: yesChemical and Biochemical Engineering Quarterly, 2017
Low lipid yield is a major bottleneck towards the scale-up application of microalgae for biodiesel production. The focus of this study was to improve the lipid production of Dunaliella tertiolecta (a marine microalga) by altering the ...

Chemistry and biochemistry of lipid peroxidation products [PDF]

open access: yesFree Radical Research, 2010
Oxidative stress and resulting lipid peroxidation is involved in various and numerous pathological states including inflammation, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. This review is focused on recent advances concerning the formation, metabolism and reactivity towards macromolecules of lipid peroxidation breakdown products, some of ...

Spring production of Calanus finmarchicus at the Iceland-Scotland Ridge

open access: yes, 2008
Distribution and reproduction activity of the calanoid copepod Calanus finmarchicus were studied in the waters between Scotland and Iceland in April 1997 during the expected time of the animals' ascent to surface waters following diapause.

The interaction of amyloid-β peptide with lipid membranes and glycosaminoglycans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The aim of the thesis is a better understanding of the thermodynamics and structural aspects of the interaction of Aβ(1-40) with lipid membranes and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs).

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Medium optimization for biotechnological production of single cell oil using Candida gali and Yarrowia lipolytica M7 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cell and Molecular Research, 2013
Microbial lipids have a great similarity to the lipids obtained from plants and animals. Triacylglycerol is the storage lipid in most of eukaryotic cells; this characteristic attracts a lot of attention for using these lipid sources in biodiesel ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Strategies to Control Microbial Lipid Production

open access: yes, 2011
Microbial lipid, especially produced by yeasts, consists mainly of triacylglycerides with fatty acid compositional profile similar to those of the commercial vegetable oil.

Overexpression of △12, △15-Desaturases for Enhanced Lipids Synthesis in Yarrowia lipolytica

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Microbial oil triacylglycerol (TAG) from the renewable feedstock attract much attention. The oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica has become the most studied for lipid biosynthesis.
