Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

Flexible String Model of Unsaturated Lipid Bilayer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
An analytically solvable model of unsaturated lipid bilayer is derived by introducing finite bending angle of the unsaturated bond relative to straight part of the lipid chain considered previously in our model of semi-flexible strings. It is found that lateral pressure profile of unsaturated lipids has distinct maximum in the unsaturated bond region ...

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

FSH enhances the inflammatory response of macrophages in the knee joint possibly through the NFκB pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio
Previous studies have suggested that women with higher follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) levels have a greater incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) compared to women with lower FSH despite normal estrogen levels.

Impact of Lipid Structural Variations on Bilayer Properties: A Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics Study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The supramolecular assembly of lipids into bilayer membranes is essential for cellular structure and function. However, the impact of lipid structural variations such as acyl chain length, degree of unsaturation, and headgroup type on bilayer properties remains incompletely understood.

Positive feedback loop between MAPK and aquaporin 7 regulates autophagy and apoptosis induced by palmitate in RIN‐m5f cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
T2DM is characterized by peripheral blood insulin resistance and progressive pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction. Here, we showed that AQP7, the only aquaglyceroporin protein, regulates autophagy and apoptosis in pancreatic β‐cells. We propose the existence of a positive feedback loop between MAPK signaling and AQP7 that regulates autophagy and apoptosis in ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

A spatially resolved and lipid-structured model for macrophage populations in early human atherosclerotic lesions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the artery wall. The early stages of atherosclerosis are driven by interactions between lipids and monocyte-derived-macrophages (MDMs). The mechanisms that govern the spatial distribution of lipids and MDMs in the lesion remain poorly understood.
