Can Lipofuscin Accumulation Be Prevented?

Rejuvenation Research, 2008
During normal autophagic degradation of mitochondria and iron-containing proteins in lysosomes, iron is released intralysosomally where it may react with hydrogen peroxide forming hydroxyl radicals (Fenton reaction). Depending on their rate of formation, these highly reactive radicals can cross-link intralysosomal material, leading to lipofuscin ...

Vitamin A and Lipofuscin

1987
Vitamin A, vitamin E, and phospholipids containing polyunsaturated fatty acids play important roles in both the structure and function of the retina, especially with regard to the photoreceptor cells (Robison et al., 1982). Deficiencies in dietary vitamin A, in forms which can be utilized as retinol, lead to night blindness, loss of photoreceptor outer

[Formation of lipofuscin].

Tsitologiia, 1978
Brain tissues of rats, mice and humans taken during autopsy were incubated in the medium containing 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB), permitting to recognize mitochondrial cytochromes. The product of DAB oxidation was located in mitochondria and lypofuscin granules of the studied objects. Besides, the reaction product was found in the rat's brain structures

Lipofuscin and Ceroid Pigments

1989
Some two dozen papers, plus summaries of another half dozen, examine aspects of recent developments in the biogenesis, properties, and nosologic implications of the autofluorescent lipopigments, lipofuscin (age pigment) and ceroid.
