Oxysterols in Vascular Cells and Role in Atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesImplication of Oxysterols and Phytosterols in Aging and Human Diseases, 1440, Springer International Publishing, pp.213-229, 2024, Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology
Atherosclerosis is a major cardiovascular complication of diseases associated with elevated oxidative stress such as type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. In these situations, low density lipoproteins (LDL) undergo oxidation. Oxidized LDL display proatherogenic activities through multiple and complex mechanisms which lead to dysfunctions of vascular ...

The potential roles of transacylation in intracellular lipolysis and related QSSA approximations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Fatty acids (FAs) are crucial energy metabolites, signalling molecules, and membrane building blocks for a wide range of organisms. Adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) is the first and presumingly most crucial regulator of FA release from triacylglycerols (TGs) stored within cytosolic lipid droplets.

Hydrolysis of chylomicron arachidonate and linoleate ester bonds by lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1987
Chylomicrons labeled with [3H]arachidonic and [14C]linoleic acid were incubated with bovine milk lipoprotein lipase or rat postheparin plasma, containing both lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase.

A Dynamical Model of Lipoprotein Metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We present a dynamical model of lipoprotein metabolism derived by combining a cascading process in the blood stream and cellular level regulatory dynamics. We analyse the existence and stability of equilibria and show that this low-dimensional, nonlinear model exhibits bistability between a low and a high cholesterol state.

Distribution and source of lipoprotein lipase in mouse mammary gland

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1991
During lactation lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is elevated in mammary tissue and depressed in adipose tissue to redirect lipids for incorporation into milk fat.

Effect of hypertension on low-density lipoprotein transport within a multi-layered arterial wall: modelling consistent with experiments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The influence of hypertension on low-density lipoproteins intake into the arterial wall is an important factor for understanding mechanisms of atherosclerosis. It has been experimentally observed that the increased pressure leads to the higher level of the LDL inside the wall.

Lipoprotein lipase enhances removal of chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants by the perfused rat liver.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1995
Lipoprotein lipase has been found to efficiently mediate binding of lipoproteins to cell surfaces and to the low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor-related protein (LRP) under cell culture conditions (Beisiegel et al. 1991. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. 88:

Modelling the inflammatory process in atherosclerosis: a nonlinear renewal equation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We present here a population structured model to describe the dynamics of macrophage cells. The model involves the interactions between modified LDL, monocytes/macrophages, cytokines and foam cells. The key assumption is that the individual macrophage dynamics depends on the amount of lipoproteins it has internalized.

Positional Specificity of Lipoprotein Lipase

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1972
Abstract The stereochemical course of hydrolysis of radioactive triolein was determined using lipoprotein lipase of cow's milk and rat postheparin plasma. [3H]Glycerol trioleate or glycerol [1-14C]trioleate was emulsified with total egg yolk lipids to provide 0.2 to 2.5 µCi of 3H or 0.03 µCi of 14C per µm substrate.

Measurement of two plasma triglyceride lipases by an immunochemical method: studies in patients with hypertriglyceridemia

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1976
Postheparin plasma lipolytic activity consists of two hydrolytic activities, hepatic triglyceride lipase and lipoprotein lipase. These two enzymes were separated and partially purified by means of ammonium sulfate precipitation and affinity ...
