Mold-Based Application of Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures (LIPSS) on Biomaterials for Nanoscale Patterning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) are highly regular, but at the same time contain a certain level of disorder. The application of LIPSS is a promising method to functionalize biomaterials.

Ultraviolet laser induced periodic surface structures positively influence osteogenic activity on titanium alloys

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Background/ObjectiveEndoprostheses might fail due to complications such as implant loosening or periprosthetic infections. The surface topography of implant materials is known to influence osseointegration and attachment of pathogenic bacteria.

Formation of two-dimensional laser-induced periodic surface structures on titanium by GHz burst mode femtosecond laser pulses

open access: yesFrontiers in Nanotechnology, 2023
GHz burst mode femtosecond (fs) laser pulses, which consist of a series of pulse trains with ultra-fast intervals of several hundred picoseconds, have offered distinct features for material processing compared to conventional irradiation of laser pulses (

Hierarchical Primary‐Secondary Coordination Synchronizes Ion Flux and Sulfur Redox in Solid Polymer Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hierarchical coordination engineering redistributes Li+ from anion‐dominated pairing toward polymer‐mediated binding. Strong primary sites promote salt dissociation, while distributed secondary sites sustain dynamic hopping pathways. This coordination landscape couples ion flux with polysulfide conversion, suppresses transport‐conversion decoupling ...

Review of Inorganic Separator Engineering for Next‐Generation Lithium–Sulfur Batteries: Compromise or Cornerstone?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inorganic compound‐modified separators transform lithium–sulfur batteries from passive polysulfide confinement to active reaction‐pathway regulation. A Practical Relevance Index (PRI)‐guided framework bridges interfacial chemistry of inorganic separators with practical constraints, establishing unified design principles for scalable, high‐energy ...

Ce-Doped Three-Dimensional Ni/Fe LDH Composite as a Sulfur Host for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
Lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs) have become the most promising choice in the new generation of energy storage/conversion equipment due to their high theoretical capacity of 1675 mAh g−1 and theoretical energy density of 2600 Wh kg−1.

Passive Directional Water Transport on Superhydrophobic Gradient Textures Fabricated by Direct Laser Interference Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microstructures fabricated by two‐beam DLIP combining spatial‐period and roughness gradients are fabricated to enhance directional transport of water droplets. The coupled gradients increase transport distance by 160% and strongly suppress motion against the gradient, demonstrating an effective strategy for controlled droplet manipulation.
