Superior improvement in dynamic response of liquid crystal lens using organic and inorganic nanocomposite

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In this study, the response time of a 4 mm-aperture hole-patterned liquid crystal (HLC) lens has been significantly improved with doping of N-benzyl-2-methyl-4-nitroaniline (BNA) and rutile titanium dioxide nanoparticle (TiO2 NP) nanocomposite.

Orientational orders in binary mixtures of hard HGO molecules

open access: yes, 2003
studied liquid crystal phases of binary mixtures of non-spherical molecules. The components of the mixtures are two kinds of hard Gaussian overlap (HGO) molecules, one kind of molecules with a small molecular-elongation parameter (small HGO molecules ...

Structural and functional characterization of chitinase from carnivorous plant Drosera adelae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A class I chitinase from the carnivorous plant Drosera adelae was expressed and purified using a yeast system, revealing high enzymatic activity. Structural analyses of the catalytic and chitin‐binding domains identified key tyrosine residues involved in substrate binding, offering insights into the enzyme's adaptation for insect digestion.

Effects of Photopatterning Conditions on Azimuthal Surface Anchoring Strength

open access: yesCrystals
Spatially varying alignment of liquid crystals is essential for research and applications. One widely used method is based on the photopatterning of thin layers of azo-dye molecules, such as Brilliant Yellow (BY), that serve as an aligning substrate for ...

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...

Cloning, expression, purification, and structural modeling of the Chandipura virus matrix protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol offers a guide for the cloning, expression, and purification of the Chandipura virus matrix protein using E. coli. It also includes a step‐by‐step procedure for cloning, expressing, and conducting fluorescence imaging of GFP‐fused Chandipura virus matrix protein in mammalian cell lines.

Synthesis of Distinct Iron Oxide Nanomaterial Shapes Using Lyotropic Liquid Crystal Solvents

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2017
A room temperature reduction-hydrolysis of Fe(III) precursors such as FeCl3 or Fe(acac)3 in various lyotropic liquid crystal phases (lamellar, hexagonal columnar, or micellar) formed by a range of ionic or neutral surfactants in H2O is shown to be an ...

Liquid Crystals as Organogelators: Liquid Crystals Gelled Organic Liquids

open access: yesJournal of Oleo Science, 2006
Gelation tests of rod like liquid crystals (LCs), columnar LCs, and cholesteric LCs rod-like have been employed. 4-Cyanophenyl 4-n-alkoxybenzoates, 4-cyano-4’-alkoxybiphenyls, 4,4’-dialkanoyloxybiphenyls, azoxybenzene derivatives, 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaalkoxytriphenylenes, and cholesteryl esters, except for cholesteryl alkyl carbonates and cholesteryl ...
