Solubility data are compiled for metals in liquid zinc [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Available data is compiled on the solubilities of various metals in liquid zinc. The temperature dependence of the solubility data is expressed using the empirical straight line relationship existing between the logarithm of the solubility and the ...

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Diffusion in liquid metals

open access: yesAIChE Journal, 1967
AbstractMutual diffusion coefficients in dilute liquid metal solutions have been correlated by methods based upon absolute rate theory and the theory of corresponding states. Both correlations reproduce the experimental data to approximately ±25%, but the absolute rate theory method is simpler to use and is applicable to a larger number of systems.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Fermi-liquid and Fermi surface geometry effects in propagation of low frequency electromagnetic waves through thin metal films

open access: yes, 2007
In the present work we theoretically analyze the contribution from a transverse Fermi-liquid collective mode to the transmission of electromagnetic waves through a thin film of a clean metal in the presence of a strong external magnetic field.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Exploring semisolid liquid metal anode for lithium-ion battery

open access: yesNext Energy
Due to their high surface tension and mobility, liquid metals present a challenge for direct coating onto current collectors. Herein, the researchers prepared a semisolid liquid metal by mixing GaInSn liquid metal with copper particle fillers.
