Freezing of a Liquid Marble

open access: yes, 2012
In this study, we present for the first time the observations of a freezing liquid marble. In the experiment, liquid marbles are gently placed on the cold side of a Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC) and the morphological changes are recorded and characterized

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Phase separation phenomena in solutions of polysulfone in mixtures of a solvent and a nonsolvent: relationship with membrane formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The phase separation phenomena in ternary solutions of polysulfone (PSf) in mixtures of a solvent and a nonsolvent (N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and water, in most cases) are investigated. The liquid-liquid demixing gap is determined and it is shown that

Liquid–Liquid Equilibria of Ionic Liquids–Water–Acetic Acid Mixtures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 2017
The liquid–liquid equilibria of ionic liquid-based systems with water and/or acetic acid have been studied at 293.15 K and atmospheric pressure. One hydrophilic ionic liquid and a series of hydrophobic ionic liquids were investigated in order to examine their effect on the separation of water and acetic acid mixtures.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Liquid Water Visualization in the Pt‐Loading Cathode Catalyst Layers of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells Using Operando Synchrotron X‐ray Radiography

open access: yesAdvanced Energy & Sustainability Research
Water management is important for addressing the challenges posed by next‐generation fuel cell electric vehicles. Although X‐ray imaging techniques are useful for probing the mechanism of water transport in the gas diffusion layer of polymer electrolyte ...

The Recognition Algorithm of Two-Phase Flow Patterns Based on GoogLeNet+5 Coord Attention

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
The two-phase flow in a microchannel consists of liquid–liquid and gas–liquid material components. The automatic recognition of flow patterns using deep learning approaches has been emerging.

Coupled cluster benchmarks of water monomers and dimers extracted from DFT liquid water: the importance of monomer deformations

open access: yes, 2009
To understand the performance of popular density-functional theory (DFT) exchange-correlation (xc) functionals in simulations of liquid water, water monomers and dimers were extracted from a PBE simulation of liquid water and examined with coupled ...

Profiles of electrostatic potential across the water-vapor, ice-vapor and ice-water interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Ice-water, water-vapor interfaces and ice surface are studied by molecular dynamics simulations with the SPC/E model of water molecules having the purpose to estimate the profiles of electrostatic potential across the interfaces.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
