Photorefractive properties of lithium niobate crystals doped with manganese [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The photorefractive properties of lithium niobate crystals doped with manganese (Mn) have been investigated. It is found that the effect of dark decay due to electron tunneling, which is the limiting factor of the highest practical doping level, is less ...

Tunable Lithium Niobate Waveguide Loop [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
A novel, compact, and tunable lithium niobate (LN) planar waveguide loop structure composed of two Y junction reflectors is proposed for optical and radio frequency signal processing applications. The preliminary device shows a high quality factor of 6.5/spl times/10/sup 4/, due to the low propagation loss of the titanium-diffused LN waveguide.

Annular interdigital transducer focuses piezoelectric surface waves to a single point [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We propose and demonstrate experimentally the concept of the annular interdigital transducer that focuses acoustic waves on the surface of a piezoelectric material to a single, diffraction-limited, spot.

Lithium Niobate-Based Integrated Photonics Utilizing Photorefractive Effect

open access: yesCommunications, 2017
Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) is an ideal material with many interesting properties for integrated photonics. Despite the rich set of properties the technology of lithium niobate integrated optics has not evolved as much as integrated optics in III-V ...

Investigation of Ytterbium Incorporation in Lithium Niobate for Active Waveguide Devices

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this work, we report on an investigation of the ytterbium diffusion characteristics in lithium niobate. Ytterbium-doped substrates were prepared by in-diffusion of thin metallic layers coated onto x- and z-cut congruent substrates at different ...

Lithium niobate photonic wires

open access: yesOptics Express, 2009
LN photonic wires of cross-section dimensions down to 1 x 0.73 microm2 were fabricated by Ar milling of a single-crystalline LiNbO3 (LN) film bonded to a SiO2/LiNbO3 substrate. Mode intensity distributions, propagation losses, and group indices of refraction were measured at 1.55 microm wavelength and compared with simulation results.
