Bird species richness and diversity at montane Important Bird Area (IBA) sites in south-eastern Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The mountains of south-eastern Nigeria are a western extension of the Cameroon mountain range, which is classified as an endemic bird area (EBA). Unlike its eastern extension in Cameroon, most of the ornithological surveys in the western extension of the

Closure of live bird markets leads to the spread of H7N9 influenza in China.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Following the emergence of H7N9 influenza in March 2013, local animal and public health authorities in China have been closing live bird markets as a measure to try to control the H7N9 influenza epidemic. The role of live bird market (LBM) closure on the

Pt‐Mediated Co‐Adsorption of Hydroxyl and Nitrogen‐Heterocyclic Species Over Cu/CuO Heterostructure Enhances Coupled Azotriazole Electrosynthesis and Dual‐Electrode Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Pt@Cu/CuO heterostructures were designed for electrochemical N─N coupling of 3,5‐diamino‐1H‐1,2,4‐triazole. Mechanism investigation revealed that the Pt sites mediated co‐adsorption of substrates and hydroxyl on Cu/CuO sites. The elaborate Pt@Cu/CuO achieved an ultralow working potential of 0.832 VRHE with a high FE of 95%. A long‐term stability of 600

Dynamic Etching‐Induced Cl‐Terminated Ti3C2Clx/Ti3ZnC2 Heterostructure for Ammonia Electrosynthesis and Zinc‐Nitrogen Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A stable Ti3C2Clx/Ti3ZnC2 heterostructure, fabricated by dynamic etching, exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic NRR activity (NH3 yield: 20.1 µg h−1 mg−1, FE: 38.1%) in alkaline media. The corresponding Zn‐N2 battery achieves a peak power density of 36.5 µW cm−2 and an NH3 yield of 13.1 µg h−1 mg−1, providing an advanced strategy for NH3 and ...

Knowledge and Perceptions of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) among Poultry Traders in Live Bird Markets in Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been prevalent in Indonesia since 2003 causing major losses to poultry production and human deaths. Live bird markets are considered high risk areas due to the density of large numbers of mixed poultry species

Hemp Cultivation and Crop Diversification: Implications for Ecosystem Services in Kentucky

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the ecosystem benefits of expanding hemp cultivation by assessing its impact on crop diversity. Using scenario‐based simulations and fixed‐effect panel regressions with county‐level data in Kentucky, we find that increased hemp acreage tends to enhance crop diversity, improving water quality and bird diversity.
