Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Cultivating Moina macrocopa Straus in different media using carotenogenic yeast Rhodotorula

open access: yesArchives of Polish Fisheries, 2015
The possibility of using carotenogenic yeast from the genus Rhodotorula as food substrate was studied during the cultivation of Moina macrocopa. The results showed that replacing traditional food substrates during the cultivation of the live fish food M.

The multifaceted roles of lysosomes in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lysosomes support cancer cell adaptation by integrating macromolecule degradation and nutrient recycling with nutrient sensing, inter‐organelle communication and immune regulation. These interconnected functions can promote tumour growth, stress tolerance and therapy resistance, while also creating context‐dependent vulnerabilities that may be ...

Comparative Performance of Kenyan and Imported Artemia in Early Larval Rearing of Clarias gariepinus

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries
Successful larval rearing of fish depends largely on live feed availability, during the critical first‐feeding stage. In Kenya, hatcheries commonly use phytoplankton or imported Artemia cysts as starter feeds, although locally produced Artemia is ...

Live Feeds Used in the Larval Culture of Red Cusk Eel, Genypterus chilensis, Carry High Levels of Antimicrobial-Resistant Bacteria and Antibiotic-Resistance Genes (ARGs)

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
The culture of red cusk eel Genypterus chilensis is currently considered a priority for Chilean aquaculture but low larval survival rates have prompted the need for the continuous use of antibacterials. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the role

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Copepods as Live Feed in Aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The greatest challenge in the aquacultural production of several marine fish species is reaching adequatefeeding during the fish larval phase. The fish larvae have unique and specific needs in regard to size andbiochemical composition and can have a low ...

Nematodes Can Substitute Artemia in a Co-Feeding Regime for Pacific White Shrimp Post-Larvae Reared in a Biofloc Nursery System

open access: yesAnimals
This study evaluated nematodes as an alternative to live Artemia when provided in a co-feeding regime to Pacific white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) post-larvae (PL) reared in a biofloc nursery system.
