PileCast: Multiple bit rate live video streaming over BitTorrent

open access: yesJournal of Network and Computer Applications, 2014
In recent years, the demand for live video streaming has steadily increased. Unfortunately, current video streaming architectures embody a number of drawbacks, which impact the quality of live video streaming and place a heavy demand on the video ...

Live Admission Control for Video Streaming

2003
The core aspect of most multimedia applications is the transmission of Variable Bit Rate (VBR) video streams requiring a sustained relatively high bandwidth with stringent Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. In such systems, a statistical bandwidth estimation is especially relevant as it is indispensable for implementing an efficient admission control.

Live Video Streaming in Vehicular Networks

2014
The coming years will see the adoption of IEEE 802.11p equipment, which enables broadband vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside connectivity. The design and validation of prospective safety and infotainment applications in VANETs (Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks) are currently areas of dynamic research.

Smooth quality streaming of live internet video

IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2004. GLOBECOM '04., 2005
A live video stream, when encoded and transmitted using a congestion controlled IP flow, experiences a variety of quality of service due to variations in video content activity and bandwidth availability, resulting in frequent oscillations in video quality.

Adaptive live video streaming by priority drop

Proceedings of the IEEE Conference on Advanced Video and Signal Based Surveillance, 2003., 2004
In this paper we explore the use of priority progress streaming (PPS) for video surveillance applications. PPS is an adaptive streaming technique for the delivery of continuous media over variable bit-rate channels. It is based on the simple idea of reordering media components within a time window into priority order before transmission.

Live-streaming mobile video

Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Human Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services, 2011
Live-streaming mobile video is an emerging medium. Few have measured how this new form of production is contributing to civic engagement or broadening the public sphere by circulating visual footage of community interest. Here I explore the overall trends in production of live-streaming mobile video from producers around the world, and focus more ...

On Deployment Of Overlay Network For Live Video Streaming

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2006
Overlay network has emerged as a popular alternative to traditional client-server architecture for the distribution of media content. Intrinsic to the notion is a 'self-growing' community of end users. It is thus important to investigate practical issues in reality rather than following prescribed theoretical assumptions.

The Design and Deployment of a BitTorrent Live Video Streaming Solution

2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia, 2009
The BitTorrent protocol is by far the most popular protocol for offline peer-to-peer video distribution on the Internet. BitTorrent has previously been extended to support the streaming of recorded video, that is, Video-on-Demand (VoD). In this paper, we take this support for video streaming a step further by presenting extensions to BitTorrent for ...
