Association Between Fibrosis Stage and Outcomes of Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

open access: yesGastroenterology, 2020
BACKGROUND & AIMS Biopsy-confirmed liver fibrosis is a prognostic factor for patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We performed a systematic review to quantify the prognostic value of fibrosis stage in patients with NAFLD and the ...

The Role of Ursodeoxycholic Acid Administration During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Questionnaire Survey

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology
In December 2022, China classified COVID-19 as a category B infectious disease. This ended 2 years of close epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19. The objective of this questionnaire was to assess the infection status in the COVID-19 pandemic since ...

Serum platelet-derived growth factor BB levels: a potential biomarker for the assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2016
Objectives: Few studies have investigated serum levels of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The present study aimed to determine whether PDGF-BB could serve as a potential biomarker for the detection of ...

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Role of the Inflammasome in Liver Disease.

open access: yesAnnual Review of Pathology, 2021
The involvement of inflammasomes in the proinflammatory response observed in chronic liver diseases, such as alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is widely recognized.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Ferroptosis in liver disease: new insights into disease mechanisms

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2021
Characterized by excessive iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, ferroptosis is a novel form of iron-dependent cell death, which is morphologically, genetically, and biochemically distinct from other well-known cell death.
