Abnormal liver function tests in acute heart failure: relationship with clinical characteristics and outcome in the PROTECT study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aims: Episodes of acute heart failure (AHF) unfavourably affect multiple organs, which may have an adverse impact on the outcomes. We investigated the prevalence and clinical consequences of abnormal liver function tests (LFTs) in AHF patients ...

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Optimal input configuration of dynamic contrast enhanced MRI in convolutional neural networks for liver segmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Most MRI liver segmentation methods use a structural 3D scan as input, such as a T1 or T2 weighted scan. Segmentation performance may be improved by utilizing both structural and functional information, as contained in dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MR series.

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

2D-Densely Connected Convolution Neural Networks for automatic Liver and Tumor Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this paper we propose a fully automatic 2-stage cascaded approach for segmentation of liver and its tumors in CT (Computed Tomography) images using densely connected fully convolutional neural network (DenseNet). We independently train liver and tumor segmentation models and cascade them for a combined segmentation of the liver and its tumor.

Evaluation of abnormal liver function tests [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 2003
Abstract Interpretation of abnormalities in liver function tests is a common problem faced by clinicians. This has become more common with the introduction of automated routine laboratory testing. Not all persons with one or more abnormalities in these tests actually have liver disease.

Association of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D Levels and liver enzymes in a nationally representative sample of iranian adolescents: The childhood and adolescence surveillance and prevention of adult noncommunicable disease study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2018
Background: Hypovitaminosis D is highly prevalent and has several adverse health effects. This study aims to assess the relationship of serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH] D) and liver enzymes in adolescents.

Biochemical assessment of liver in sickle cell disease patients at a tertiary care hospital of north India [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is frequently associated with liver disease. The constant state of hemolysis due to reduced red cell survival; and multiple blood transfusions will lead to hepatic sinusoidal congestion, viral hepatitis, cholestasis,
