Protein restriction during pregnancy alters Cdkn1c silencing, dopamine circuitry and offspring behaviour without changing expression of key neuronal marker genes

open access: yesScientific Reports
We tracked the consequences of in utero protein restriction in mice throughout their development and life course using a luciferase-based allelic reporter of imprinted Cdkn1c.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Determinação da subsidência devida a cavernas no sal-gema

open access: yesGeotecnia, 2000
A exploração de grandes cavernas de armazenagem tem sempre a ocorrência de subsidência como consequência a longo prazo. Embora estes deslocamentos superficiais raramente tenham consequências estruturais quando ocorrem em zonas não habitadas, podem dar ...

Uterine sarcoma – time is worth its weight in gold

open access: yesPolish Journal of Pathology, 2023
Leiomyosarcoma is one of the most common types of soft tissue sarcoma in adults, and it can occur in almost any part of the body. Uterine leiomyosarcoma constitutes 1% of all gynaecological tumours.

Stability of quantum states of finite macroscopic systems against classical noises, perturbations from environments, and local measurements

open access: yes, 2002
We study the stability of quantum states of macroscopic systems of finite volume V, against weak classical noises (WCNs), weak perturbations from environments (WPEs), and local measurements (LMs).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

PBK/TOPK mediates Ikaros, Aiolos and CTCF displacement from mitotic chromosomes and alters chromatin accessibility at selected C2H2-zinc finger protein binding sites

open access: yesNature Communications
PBK/TOPK is a mitotic kinase implicated in haematological and non-haematological cancers. Here we show that the key haemopoietic regulators Ikaros and Aiolos require PBK-mediated phosphorylation to dissociate from chromosomes in mitosis.

The PolyMAX Frequency-Domain Method: A New Standard for Modal Parameter Estimation?

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2004
Recently, a new non-iterative frequency-domain parameter estimation method was proposed. It is based on a (weighted) least-squares approach and uses multiple-input-multiple-output frequency response functions as primary data.
