Energy bursts in fiber bundle models of composite materials

open access: yes, 2008
As a model of composite materials, a bundle of many fibers with stochastically distributed breaking thresholds for the individual fibers is considered.

Upacicalcet: A Novel Intravenous Calcimimetic Agent for Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis With Secondary Hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is a common complication in patients receiving maintenance dialysis, driven by calcium and phosphate metabolism disturbances. Calcimimetics are central to the management of SHPT by enhancing calcium‐sensing receptor sensitivity and reducing parathyroid hormone secretion.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Physiological incongruity of the humero-ulnar joint [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Investigations into the distribution of subchondral bone density in the human elbow have suggested that the geometry of the trochlear notch deviates from a perfect fit with the trochlea, and that the load is transmitted ventrally and dorsally rather than

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Mechanical model and contact properties of double row slewing ball bearing for wind turbine

open access: yesReviews on Advanced Materials Science, 2021
In this paper, the mechanical models of large-scale double row slewing ball bearing considering combined loading conditions were presented based on the rigid rings and flexible rings, respectively.

Daily Work Load Distribution to Increase TIME Quality of Inpatients' Medical Record Document Procurement in X Hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Procurement of inpatient medical record document is one of some indicators of a hospital's minimum service standards (SPM). According to the hospital MSS, the ideal procurement of inpatient medical record document is about ≤ 15 minutes, however the ...

Active distribution power system with multi-terminal DC links [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A fast power restoration operational scheme and relevant stabilizing control is proposed for active distribution power systems with multi-terminal DC network in replacement of the conventional normal open switches. A 9-feeder benchmark distribution power

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Soft Computing Approach to Dynamic Load Balancing in 3GPP LTE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A major objective of the 3GPP LTE standard is the provision of high-speed data services. These services must be guaranteed under varying radio propagation conditions, to stochastically distributed mobile users.
